Ghostbusters Themed Bedroom

Giving your kids the option to have a themed bedroom can result in all kinds of weird and wonderful ideas. Take a look at how one clever mum created a Ghostbusters themed bedroom on a budget.

If you need help coming up with ideas for a fun themed bedroom for your kids, ‘Who you gonna call?’… the amazing group members in the DIY On A Budget Facebook group of course!
And that’s precisely what Poppy Ann did when her 4-year-old requested a Ghostbusters themed bedroom.

Poppy Ann has been a member of the DIY On A Budget Official Facebook group since April 2017. She asked the group for some ideas to help her create a Ghostbusters themed bedroom, then came back to share the results with everyone. We’re sure you’ll agree that she did a superb job!

Poppy Ann’s handy work shows that you don’t need to break the bank to give a room a fresh new look. She completed the whole project with a budget of less than £80 by decorating furniture she already had, and used some creative ingenuity to add extra special touches.

Add a little slime…

To represent the iconic Ghostbusters firehouse HQ, Poppy found a red brick vinyl from Amazon to cover one wall. Black floating shelves with Ghostbuster memorabilia and hand-painted slime drips underneath complete the look for this wall.

Using vinyl and self-adhesive wallpaper is a great way to change a room temporarily or if you’re renting. Check out our top tips for applying self-adhesive vinyl! https://onabudget.blog/how-to-apply-self-adhesive-vinyl

Another feature wall was painted in ghoulish green with black added to the bottom to create a dripping slime look. Poppy Ann then hand-painted the Ghostbusters logo (we’re jealous of her art skills!), but did say that she saw vinyl versions of the logo available on Etsy.

The furniture was given a new lease of life thanks to sticky back hazard tape, and some more painted slime splats were added for good measure. An LED light strip was run around the window, which added even more vibrance to the already bright green decor. But I think we can all agree that the pièce de résistance of this whole room has to be the 3D Slimer model that looks like it’s flying through the wall.

Poppy Ann made the 3D Slimer model herself using papier mache and then painted it with acrylic paints. Paper mache is a great way to add some character-based art to a themed room. Not only is it lightweight (so easy to mount on the wall), it’s super cheap to do and a great activity for the whole family to get involved with.

Have your children ever asked for a themed room makeover?
